Return to Stafford Springs

Tucked in the sleepy town of Stafford Springs, CT is a piece of American racing history. A place where the young can first experience the thrill of stock car and modified racing and where the old can relive their youth and continue their love affair with motor racing. Since 1959 Stafford Motor Speedway has been home to motor racing in the Northeast. An idyllic local track that is as much a symbol of this small town as it’s quaint downtown and main street is. It embodies everything we love about this sport and Americana.

Weekly races are held throughout the summer and into the fall. Young up and coming racers cut their teeth against wiley veterans in hopes that one day they can become local legends or make it to the big leagues. Stafford also hosts pros from the Whelan Modified Series, the best of the best of modified racers from around the country.

Stafford is a notable stop in many great careers, having been the breeding ground of some of NASCARS biggest names. Owned and operated by the Arute family since the early 1960’s, the track rose to popularity in the 70s and 80s with names like Geoff and Brett Bodine, Mike Stefanik, Ron and Ken Bouchard grabbing the wheel and rocketing to victories. In recent years legends like Doug Coby, Woody Pitkat and Ryan Preece have roared to victory many times.
